Mother Luck never misses!
Now, do you expect her to give her charm to every person that requests it? If I were her, I wouldn’t do that.
George: Sam, did you hear about Prince?
Sam: No, what about him?
George: Well, I heard he got a job at Google.
Sam: Google, as in Google?
George: Yeah. He works in the cybersecurity department. Must be really nice.
Sam: Really? that's huge! I'm happy for him. He got lucky, you know.
Sam said Prince got lucky. Prince is 21 years old, and he just got his dream job at Google. Well, I would like to agree with him on that one because, you do not get to see (young) people getting their dream job, at the first trial, at an early stage in life, every day. Most people will tell you they were rejected by their dream company about 2-3 times, before finally getting accepted. And some will say they gave up trying to get into the company and settled for another that was ready to accept them with open hands. And here is Prince, getting a job at his dream company on his first trial. But then again, is it luck really?
Depends on how you define luck. Oxford defines luck as success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions. Also, there is a popular quote that says “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”. I think I agree more with the latter.
While people say it is rare to come across Luck –or Mother Luck, as I would like to put it—every day, I beg to differ. I think Mother Luck is always roaming around or lurking somewhere. In fact, she probably is standing by you now as you read this.
A person might wish Mother Luck to bless them with $100,000 but they can’t figure out how to manage $10 or multiply (invest) it. They would likely lose the money almost immediately they get it. Or a person asking Mother Luck for a particular job when they do not have the skillset required to keep it. Her charm is limited, so she has to look really closely before giving it out. Now, do you expect her to give her charm to every person that requests it? If I were her, I wouldn’t do that.
She feels you have to earn it, and I couldn’t agree more. She has to be convinced —to a large extent— that we are truly prepared, and deserving of whatever charm she’s about to give us.
It is easy to get caught up in the thought that somehow, Mother Luck hates us. We have tried and tried several times but we haven’t received her charm. And don’t even talk about preparation because boyyy did we prepare. But like every other ‘supernatural being’, Mother Luck hears our cries. She keeps searching desperately for more people to bless with her charm hoping we get the message that other peoples’ success is an indication that she is nearby, somewhere around us, waiting for the right moment to bless us. She hopes that we get the message to keep pushing, as she is ever ready to receive us with warm hands, and grant us what we so yearn for. She hopes that we do not lose hope, and never think that she missed us because really, Mother Luck never misses.
I read (partially) about four books this week because, for some reason, I was in a different mood for different sub-genres on different days. The Ten-Day MBA (Business), The Monk who sold his Ferrari (Self-help- Personal Mastery), Harry Potter (Fantasy) and one other book whose title I, unfortunately, can not remember at the moment.
Of all these books, I would be writing excerpts from The Monk who Sold his Ferrari alone.
“Enlightened thinkers know that their thoughts form their world and the quality of one’s life comes down to the richness of one’s thoughts. If you want to live a more peaceful, meaningful life, you must think more peaceful, meaningful thoughts.”
